My testimony of #awakeningisrael… my awakening story is a tiny bit different… I was raised with my Nigerian father (Edo tribe) and African-American mother so with my father in the home teaching us our heritage other than American slavery, I didn’t have as much of a problem with identity.
I know I’ve been called to revival and Awakening since I was a child. Following the example of my mother I’ve always had a hunger for more than church as usual, and as a youth I always “borrowed” her books that she had lying around that were about the great revivals and intercessory prayer movements that changed the world. Prayer meetings and a hunger for revival in my generation was the foundation for everything I did even when I was ignorantly promoting Christian Hip Hop and Gospel concerts.
Fast forward to 2011 and my wife and I were building a house of prayer in Detroit, and volunteering on the prayer team with Lou Engle’s “The Call” promotion for Ford Field in Detroit. We noticed that lot of our “white” Prophetic friends both locally and nationally were excited to see God move in the “black” church.
Many of them were saying that it was time for blacks to take leadership in the prayer movement and in the church as a whole. They kept talking and preaching about Isaiah 11:11 where Israel and Judah were regathered in the last days. I thought it was deep – “Amen” – but had no idea what it really meant.
I also remember them preaching about Zephaniah 3:9 about how Gods worshippers would come from “beyond the Rivers of Ethiopia…” The only land beyond the Rivers of Ethiopia are west Africa, central Africa, and South Africa. That meant that “black people were anointed to lead the nations in worship.” We agreed because we all knew that “black” people are very influential in music, expressiveness, and creativity. Again, it was deep at the time… but we actually had no idea what the Scriptures really meant.
Fast forward to January 2016 and a prophetic pastor friend of mine forwarded me pre-recorded phone call for another The Call event in California that was targeted to black people because it was on the 110th anniversary of Azuza street. Azusa Street in LA, California was where God used a black man named William Seymour to reintroduce the the gifts of the Holy Spirit back into the Body of Christ and jumpstart worldwide evangelism in 1906. All the pentecostal and spirit-filled denominations descend from William Seymour and a house on Azusa street.
Well on this pre-recorded call from one of the prophetic preachers said that he had a very vivid dream in late 2015 that the Lord was disappointed about what had not happened in 2011. In the dream Jesus appeared to him and said “I’ve been waiting 4 years.”
Another preacher shared a revelation of the original purpose of Isaiah 11:11 actually meant. He said “It means exactly what it says.” This was mindblowing to me because I was starting to put 2 and 2 together. I’m thinking to myself… “If they keep talking about black people related to Isaiah 11:11… then that means they must think black people are Israelites.”
The backdrop was all the police murdering innocent black people that was ramping up in that time starting with Trayvon Martin. Another preacher said prophetically that if we dont get revival, repentance and forgiveness between “whites and blacks”, we will see more race riots in the streets.
I had first heard about black Hebrew Israelites around 2014/2015. I didn’t really believe them because the ones that were vocal were still demonized, and prideful and they seemed ignorant to the New Covenant. I had even argued against and written against their doctrine.
But behind the scenes the Lord had already been preparing me for this understanding. We had already seen the idolatry, adultery, apostasy, and child sacrifice in the church and had repented and disconnected ourselves from it. We even wrote a book about it called Killing Idols for Revival in 2012.
We had already done several prophetic prayer tours around Detroit, and had uncovered the roots of idolatry & adultery in the church – Constantines Roman Catholic pagan Christendom. That was in 2013.
In 2015 I had already received a revelation from Daniel 2, Daniel 7, and Revelation 17-18 that the Western Empire & America scripturally has more in common with Babylon and is actually the 4th Beast… because prophetic Scriptures describe each empire in history as a Beast.
So with this backdrop of understanding what an Empire is, and the new understanding of “black people” being linked to Isaiah 11:11, I was then able do research on all the other Scriptures like Deuteronomy 28-30, Romans 11, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel with a fresh perspective.
I also started to see more Spirit-filled, Bible believing, Jesus following preachers of all ethnicities who believed the same things.
I even checked into a couple of the YouTube black Hebrew Israelite videos – but this time I was able to “chew the meat” and spit out the ignorance and hatred from their woundedness, anger, and desire to make a name for themselves.
Needless to say God changed my whole understanding of the prophetic Scriptures and that same year I started teaching a Series on Understanding Prophetic Scriptures in our house-to-house congregation. I’ve added tons of Scriptures, eyewitness testimony, and historical documentation to that teaching series over the years, and May 2020 will be our 5th straight year going through all the prophetic Scriptures on the Awakening of Scattered Israelites.
My eyes were opened on a whole different level. Reading the bible was like a new experience, I was able to see SO much more of what I read. I could actually see what was happening in the Scriptures and relate it to real life. You can never “unsee” something once your eyes are really opened.
But just to be safe, I kept trying to find so called “solid” bible teachers to debunk it. But every time I found someone honest, they actually ended up confirming that there were huge Israelite tribes in Africa.
God gave me instructions to teach this not just with TRUTH but also with GRACE – so we try to teach and obey the Prophetic Scriptures in the love, balance, repentance, and humility of the New Covenant – not in the anger, woundedness, and pride of what everyone has seen on YouTube and on the street corners.
I’m very excited because biblically the Awakening of Israel is one of the final steps to Revival and returning to the Commandments of God, bringing unity to the Body of Christ – and the return of the Lord Jesus to earth with the New City of Jerusalem!
