Would you tell God not to give you a financial blessing of 10 million dollars? Would you say, “Oh, Lord, I don’t want that 10 million, I have enough”.
So why is that our response to the Lord in bearing children? Do we believe God’s word that explicitly says Children are a blessing? Or do we adhere to the world’s rhetoric telling us children are a financial burden, take up too much time and energy, they are too expensive? Who wants to get up at night with a crying newborn?
Don’t take MY word for it, let’s go straight to scripture.
We are COMMANDED to be fruitful (reproduce)
Genesis 9
7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
Malachi 2
This scripture is speaking about husbands and wives and how God desires Godly offspring (children) from Godly marriages…
15 But did He not make them one,
Having a remnant of the Spirit?
And why one?
He seeks godly offspring.
Psalms 127:3-5
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
So scripturally you can see that GOD has given the COMMAND, not a suggestion, to be fruitful and fill the earth with children. God made husband and wife one to reflect the image of God AND because GOD SEEKS Godly offspring, Godly Children. The fruit of the womb is a reward, NOT A CURSE! So why would we not desire what we clearly see God desires?
Our minds MUST be renewed by scripture in order to see things the way God sees them. When we were in sin we did not see things the way God saw them, but now that we are in the light of Christ we have to see ALL things the way God sees them. So we believe sex outside of marriage is wrong because the bible says so, we believe murder is wrong because the bible says so, so can we believe that we are called to give God Godly seed, to be fruitful and multiply, can we believe children are a blessing? The bible says so… And if you truly believe something is a blessing, would you turn it away? Would you try to stop the blessing from coming to you like we do with children?

To be honest, my husband and I fell into the same lies of the world. Before we got married we talked about how much we both wanted to have lots of children, and that having children was a part of God’s design for marriage. But after we got married, we used contraception for over a year to prevent pregnancy until we were “ready”. But a friend of mine gave me a sermon series on CD about God’s plan for family. After listening to the teaching we were convicted by the Holy Spirit. God showed us that we were allowing Him to have control in every area of our lives EXCEPT allowing Him to decide when we had children and how many. So we stopped using any form of contraception, including “charting” in which we avoided intercourse when I was ovulating. Seven months later, I was pregnant with our first child. So, Champion is here because a friend loved me enough to challenge me with bible truth!
I am not trying to offend ANYONE but we have a very telling scripture on birth control…
Genesis 38:8-10
New King James Version (NKJV)
8 And Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and marry her, and raise up an heir to your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the heir would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he emitted on the ground, lest he should give an heir to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD; therefore He killed him also.
So in this passage of scripture Onan “pulled out” before he ejaculated and spilled his semen on the ground so he would not get his new wife pregnant. He had his own reason why he did not want to have a child, but as we see, Onan’s view did not match God’s view, and he was slain by God.
Is having children cheap and easy? NO! Pregnancy is hard, labor is hard, looking after a newborn 24/7 is hard!!! But we are to submit our will to God’s, and our desire must be to please God (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
If you do not use birth control will you have 12 children? NO! In scripture Sarah had 1, Rachel had 2. I met someone who told me their mother NEVER used any form of birth control and only had 3. God knows EXACTLY how many children you need and when you need them. If you are willing to trust Him (Psalm 34:8).
So, I strongly encourage Godly couples to seek God by searching the scriptures about what God has to say concerning marriage and children. And if you find that God’s view is different from yours, you must change your view to fit His. God’s view NEVER changes to fit ours.
In peace and love…
