DEUTERONOMY 24 DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE PARADOX?
Q: I listened to your recording about remarriage. In light of your conclusion, how would you interpret or understand deut.24 ? This scripture is either a contradiction or a paradox …I just want to know your thoughts?
A: Deuteronomy 24 is the scripture Yehusha referrenced when he spoke of the hardness of mens heart. This was part of the ceremonial law added for transgression, not the original 10 Commandments.
Deuteronomy 24: 1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. 2 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife.
Jesus’s word supersedes Moses, especially if we are Christ followers. However that scripture is talking about a divorced woman marrying someone else and then going back to the first man Again. That was defiling the land.
That doesn’t even apply in the new covenant because Jesus reverted marriage back to creation authority where 2 become one until one dies, and divorce and remarriage is adultery.
Matthew 19:8. He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE DO COMMUNION?
Q: Communion. Please explain… Should we take communion? How often should we take communion? Should we drink wine / a particular kind of wine…or just grape juice / does it matter? What’s the real reason and why do some churches do it every month?
A: From what I see in the scriptures it’s something taken in conjunction with a meal, and it’s done in remembrance of the death of Christ. There’s not set dates for doing it, it’s just done as often as you wish. In the bible it was bread and wine, people change it to grape juice so they dont drink & drive I guess!
IS THERE A SUCH THING AS CHURCH MEMBERSHIP?
Q: Is there a such thing as church membership?
A: So first let’s discuss what a church is, verses what the Body of Christ does:
What does an Assembly do?
Assemble.
What does a Body do?
Stay Connected.
What does a Congregation do?
Congregate.
What does a Church do?
Nothing, because its a building. It’s a place you go, it’s not a living thing.
What do you do in your relationship with Christ’s Body?
The term church (kuriakos) was mistranslated and meant by the Roman Catholic church to cause confusion. The real word is ecclesia, which means Congregation or Assembly. Once you get rid of this confusion, things become less confusing. So to answer your question:
There is no such thing as church membership, in terms of worldly styles of membership, but we do have in the bible:
– Saints that meet at Congregations at Blank’s House
– Deacon/Deaconness Blank who serves the Congregation at Blanks House
– Overseers of the Congregation in such City or Area
We should NOT have country club style memberships or the witchcraft and control:
- counting people,
- Abusing people
- Lording over people
- seeing people as dollar signs,
- banning fellowship with people who leave
But there is a certain measure of structure and relationship that Congregations have.
- Helping a specific congregation
- Serving a specific congregation (Romans 12)
- Building up a specific congregation by speaking for the Lord (exhorting, teaching, Romans 12)
- Hospitality, hosting, serving a specific congregation, deacon, overseer, and area
- Being connected with, and ministering to traveling apostles, prophets, teachers and evangelists
Also as Jesus demonstrated, paying taxes is biblical as a ministry.
Another thing I would add is that Overseers do have responsibility to purge and remove those from the congregation who don’t repent of sexual sin.
So basically the carnal structures are not of God, Christian ministers are not supposed to be lords over the flock and have gentile style authority.
But there is a Godly relationship and commitment based, family style structure that we must rediscover and rebuild as we colabor and build the Congregation with Him.
