3 Practical Steps in Judging Worship Music

As a gospel DJ and Concert Promoter for over 12 years, I learned all these lessons THE HARD WAY!

WE MUST BE AWARE OF THE DOCTRINE OF JEZEBEL THRU THE MUSIC!

HOWEVER ME MUST ALSO BE PRACTICAL AND SCRIPTURAL AS WE JUDGE!

WE CANNOT BE SPOOKY BUT WE ALSO CANNOT BE BLIND. BE SOUND IN JUDGING THE SOUND!

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
20 Despise not prophesyings.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

3 Practical Steps in Judging Worship Music

1. Lyrics
– Are they wrong? Is there doctrinal error in the lyrics?

Psalm 47:7
For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

2. Copycat Music
– Are we knowingly feeding God’s people food that has been offered to idols?
– Is the melody taken directly from an ungodly source to the point where it will remind you of the ungodly song?

Revelation 2:20
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to EAT THINGS SACRIFICED UNTO IDOLS.

3. Fornication
– Is this song produced in close professional or financial association or partnership with the UNgodly?
– Is George Clinton, Michael Jackson, or Sony getting a check or some sort of credit every time you sing it?

Revelation 2:20
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to SEDUCE MY SERVANTS TO COMMIT FORNICATION, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Yes we can sing songs written by imperfect Worshippers that were using their gifts and giving them to God.
– David and Solomon were God worshipping writers who fell into adultery… but we still sing their godly lyrics to this day.

Romans 11:29
For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

HOWEVER concerning the doctrine of Jezebel, we cannot use idolatry to enhance our worship. We cannot willingly and knowingly partner with idolatry.

We must offer unto the Lord pure worship lyrically, musically, and spiritually.

Psalm 96:1 O sing unto the Lord a NEW SONG: sing unto the Lord, all the earth.
