God’s Message in Civil Unrest

God’s Message in Civil Unrest
In 30 AD Jerusalem was a place of extreme civil unrest, political frustration, and racial tension. There was police brutality from Roman soldiers that occupied the land of Judah. There were continual uprisings and rebellions from zealots. There were those benefitting economically and politically from the status quo (Publicans, Sadducees, and Pharisees). But most of the people were in a state of discontent and frustration. They all wanted a Messiah and deliverance from the Roman Empire. Little did they know that their whole nation and way of life would be completely destroyed within 40 years, and that most of them would be killed by the Roman Empire.

In the midst of these times, God sent 2 messengers.

One was the Forerunner, John the Baptist. His role was to preach a message of repentance and prepare the way for the Messiah.

The second was the Messiah. He echoed Johns message of repentance PLUS He added the kingdom of God with teaching, healing, and casting out demons. Most people thought the role of the Messiah was to end the Roman Empire’s dominion and take over but His first goal was to die for their sins and rise again. His takeover of the Roman will be established at His 2nd Coming.

But the people didn’t know that! In the meantime they had to deal with their life and manage to live in peace in their chaotic time. God knew that, and God cares, so this is the message of repentance that God’s 2 messengers brought:

Matthew 3

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Luke 3

10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?

11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?

13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.

14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

TO THE PRIESTS: You snakes need to bring the REAL fruits of repentance and stop claiming authority from your spiritual father, because God is bringing an axe to all ministries that lack the fruits of Repentance!

TO THE PEOPLE: be generous and share with each other

TO THE PUBLICANS (POLITICIANS): stop trying to get extra tax money

TO THE SOLDIERS (POLICE): 1. Stop Doing Violence. 2. Stop Accusing People Falsely. 3. Be content with your wages (stop trying to get extra money from the people).

These are the Words of God. This is an example of a scripturally balanced and accurate message of repentance to everyone.

Notice that the soldiers that occupied their land were known for being violent, for accusing people falsely, and for trying to get extra money. Nothing has changed. Police and Soldier brutality is rampant in occupying forces all over the world.
The public servants were known for trying to get extra money. Nothing has changed. Taxes keep going up. Bribes and Lobbying is rampant.

Religious authorities were known for claiming authority from their name brands and history and spiritual father instead of from the real fruits of repentance… they did all this while partnering economically and politically with the Roman Empire. Nothing has changed.

The regular citizens were told to be generous to each other, to share resources and food… because this creates a more peaceful community and helps lower greed and theft. Nothing has changed. The people still have the ability to stop being greedy and start giving generously.

What can you do as a regular Kingdom Citizen do to bring a little bit of Gods Kingdom to your community in these perilous times?

Be sharing. Be giving. No strings attached. Just give. No voting necessary. No political permission. No checks and balances. Just give to those that have need. This will lower the tension around you. This will soften relationships around you. This will calm the racism around you. If you have extra, just give it away! Don’t make a killing. Speak life to your community, stop the cursing and Give Away your Extra Goods and Food!

And after the Messiah was revealed to all the believers in Jesus, what did they do?

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Nobody does it better than the followers of Jesus!

The problem with following satans violent ways is that there is always somebody a little more satanic than you, so you end up dead anyway. It’s better to let Gods Word be your defender. Study war no more! Preach the Word without respect of persons.

When you have tasted the power of spiritual violence (fasting, prayer, preaching), you no longer need physical violence.
