Can We know People’s Hearts and Motives?
Baby non-spiritual Christians often think and proclaim that we can’t judge motives… but that’s only because they forgot a few of the scriptures and also lack the power of God:
– The word of the Lord discerns the thoughts & intents of the heart:
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Oftentimes the scriptures can be used to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart!
– He that is spiritual judges all things:
1 Corinthians 2: 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
Fleshly and worldly minded people see spiritual discernment as a foolish thing. But when you are spiritual you can judge all things by the spirit!
– Milky baby Christians can’t Discern Good and Evil:
Hebrews 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
A lot of people that should be teachers by now have fallen so far from the way of holiness that they need someone to teach them the basics again! When you use milk you are a babe. A lot of Christian rappers are going back to milk – but they have no excuse to stay in their baby state – they are becoming spiritually retarded! When you get away from milk and move on to meat you have excercised your spiritual senses to discern good and evil.
– We can’t discern people by their flesh (outward appearance), we have to become spiritually sensitive:
2 Corinthians 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
If we can’t know people after the flesh… then what do we know them by? One way is by the spirit, the other way is by Fruit (Matthew 7, Matthew 12). In this article I am focusing on the spirit.
-Also one of the gifts of the Holy Ghost is “discerning of spirits”:
1 Corinthians 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Discerning of spirits is a gift of the Holy Ghost. Its a free gift, we don’t need to constantly reject it. God often gives it to us and as we grow we become more sensitive to us. However, if your theology consists of constantly rejecting the Holy Spirit, it will be hard for you to use the free gifts of the Holy Spirit.
To summarize:
- Yes I do know exactly who you are, by the Spirit (immediate) and by observing Fruit (long term).
- Don’t worry – I still love you.
- But don’t get it twisted – I will still protect the sheep.
We at the Biblically Sound Artist Coalition would like to encourage all the saints: Don’t be afraid to be mature and grow! MATURE believers are necessary for Effective Evangelism and Outreach. If everyone is a spiritual baby or spiritually retarded and refusing to grow in holiness, we will only produce false converts! God is not mocked!
Don’t be afraid to Grow! Seek after JESUS. He has your high calling in His Face! Fruitfulness comes from Abiding in His Presence, not by forsaking His Holy Spirit.
