New and so-called “controversial” doctrines actually sound very familiar when you recognize that they were sitting right there in the Scriptures the whole time, hiding from you. Then they jump out at you.
Part of the reason I can recognize error in false teaching, false apostles, and in extra-biblical books is because I’ve been reading thru the whole Bible for a long time. Being familiar with the Scriptures helps me to recognize false doctrines that don’t fit into His-Story.
When I hear a new doctrine I can instantly judge it by the big picture storyline of Scriptures in the Bible and judge if it fits. It only takes a few Scriptures for me to determine if something taught is truth or if it’s an error.
