HELP ME UNDERSTAND DANIEL 9!!!
Q: The prophecies of Daniel 9 are explicit, and the timelines are pretty specific. Some of the events and timings at the end of that chapter have me confused. Can you help explain?
A: I have recently studied that scripture, but when I was meditating I was focused on the prayer where Daniel was repenting for the sins of his Hebrew people. But basically the whole section of scripture can be understood in that exact lense: Daniel praying and repenting and fasting for Israel.
Daniel saw from the scriptures that it was time for Israel to be redeemed from Babylon and returned to their land. So he fasted and prayed and repented. Then God responded to Him with inside information about the second chance that Israel would get, how long the restoration of Jerusalem would last, a description of when the Messiah would come, and when the Messiah would be killed (cut off). Then after the Messiah (Jesus) was killed, Jerusalem’s complete destruction would come thru Rome.
These events already happened in 70 A.D., as Jesus had an understanding of Daniel, and also prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem in Luke 21. He also said that when that happened, Jerusalem would be dominated (trampled) by Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. That means that the vision that Daniel saw was the last chance for Israel as a nation. They had a certain time period described in Daniel 9 where Jerusalem would be restored, and the Messiah would come and be killed. Then after that, Jerusalem would be destroyed again, and the people of Judah were scattered throughout all nations.
Israel will not be restored by God as a nation in Jerusalem until the return of the Messiah, when they are united with the Gentiles in Christ as one new man in Christ (Jeremiah 30, Ezekiel 37, Galatians 3:28,29, Ephesians 2:14-15).
MY HUSBAND’S NOT SAVED? WILL MY CHILDREN BE OKAY??
Q: The model of the (believing) family is Christ, husband,wife. What if the husband is in unbelief and the wife’s suspects things happening in the home..? Money woes, kids need extra especially from dad, wife burdened etc. If the husband is out of order…Can the house be out of order because of it?? And what is the wife’s response, especially in regards to the children?
A: That is a very sensitive topic, because it deals with the souls of our most precious relationships in this life. The first scripture that comes to mind is this one:
1 Corinthians 7
13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. 15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. 16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?
In other words, your faith in Jesus Christ is yours alone. Your faith determines how you work, how you pray, what you say, and what your hopes are. If your husband leaves you because of your faith, he can leave and you can be at peace. (Not so you can get remarried, vs 11 warns against that). But if he stays, he stays and great things can happen in your family. Maybe your faith filled prayer, work, and planning can save your husband?
Another thing I see in that scripture is that your children are sanctified by just ONE of their parents being in faith. So that means that the mother’s faith is enough to make her children holy, even without the husband being a believer, and vice versa. So you have an open door in heaven for your children to be saved and set apart for God, no matter what the other spouse thinks.
So in this case my biggest recommendation for the wife would be to turn up her faith as far as how she prays, how she relates to God with her work, how she respects and honors her husband. The bible says the heart of the king is in God’s hand. He can’t force anyone to believe in Him, but He can speak to the husband according to the wife’s faith. That doesn’t mean keep preaching to the husband, but living a respectful and obedient life before Him, and waiting for God to speak to him through another preacher, or through a dream, or through a direct revelation, or through an unexpected curiosity for the Bible.
1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
That basically means that if the husband doesn’t believe the preaching of the gospel, you can win Him to faith in God just by him watching your lifestyle of obedience and respect for both him and God.
Let me reemphasize the ways God speaks to the husband when wife stops preaching and lives an obedient example:
– through another preacher
– through a dream
– through a direct revelation
– through an unexpected curiosity for the Bible.
This is what you need to WAIT ON GOD for. There’s examples for these all throughout the Bible. I’m reemphasizing this to challenge people that like to preach but don’t really believe that God can speak or change hearts directly. If you don’t believe that God can speak to them, then why should they believe that God can speak through you? Where is your hope? Be patient and WAIT, with a respectful and obedient lifestyle.
When you respect and obey Him AS IF He was already serving God, maybe He will be able to see where He fits in between you and God in the family. Then in time your husband may be able to readjust to his role under God – by pursuing a relationship with God.
In other words, you can create a space in your family where he feels respected and obeyed, and it will help him get a feeling and understanding of how to relate to God with that same respect and obedience.
So the main point is, the believing wife is in a powerful position! If she uses her position with humility, obedience, and extreme faith, her family can be impacted greatly. Again, God can’t force anyone’s will, but God is very powerful and able to do anything that she believes!
DOES GOD TRY TO HURT US WITH OUR FAITH?
Q: If God knows that your hurting would it be in His nature to ask you to continue to believe Him for the very thing that is hurting you?
A: I hear two things in your question… Understanding God’s heart, and Understanding faith. When I think about understanding God’s heart I think about what Jesus said when His ministry started:
Luke 4: 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
God wants you to be healed in your heart if you are hurt. God is compassionate. Jesus showed us the Father’s personality. God cares about your pain and He wants to heal you from it. He wants to set you free from the things that have held you captive. You don’t have to be concerned about God’s heart. His yoke is easy and His burden is light, and He wants to make you better.
If He asked you to believe for something it’s because it will make you better, not to hurt you. Yes we do suffer pain in our obedience, but its only make us better and stronger.
The scripture that comes to mind about faith is this one:
Hebrews 11: 35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: 36 and others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38 (of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
First point: some people did not accept deliverance from God, so that they could attain a better resurrection. There is a part of your faith that can refuse to accept deliverance, instead choosing to suffer wrong, so that you can be rewarded with a greater reward in the heavenly kingdom when this temporary life is over.
For example, I could curse my enemies to death, and get rid of some of my problems… but instead I let my enemies live and I bless them, because I want a bigger reward for my suffering in righteousness. In order to do this you, have to have a heart-felt, almost tangible understanding of heavenly rewards and how valuable they are.
For example, Anna in Luke chapter 2 was a widow, and she could have easily gotten remarried early in her 84 years of being a widow. Her husband was dead, it was completely biblical for her to marry again. But she chose not to accept a new husband in order to fast and pray and seek God. She was rewarded with seeing the Messiah face to face, and she has an even bigger reward in the heavenly Kingdom.
Next point: People who had faith, some of them did not receive the promise. Some received it on earth and some didn’t receive their promise on earth. That tells me that faith has more to do with your relationship with God than whether you receive the promise or not. When you have a friend to friend faith relationship with God like Abraham did, you don’t mind receiving your promise in the Heavenly kingdom rather than the earthly one.
When you are a friend of God, your walk with God is what’s important, and your faith is more related to your stance with God and your standard than to the results you can see. We walk by faith (beliefs and spiritual principles) NOT by sight (results and physical manifestations).
So you have to ask yourself: Did God ask you to believe for something physical to manifest, or did He ask you to follow a certain belief and standard, and to stick with that standard whether the results manifest or not?
WHY DO PEOPLE TREAT US BAD?
Q: Why do people such as family, friends, even potential mates and mates have the mentality that God doesn’t care about what they do or say to you? Why do they believe The Lord doesn’t care what they do to us as if He ain’t watching us all?
People whose hearts aren’t regenerated in the knowledge of God just plain and simple don’t know and don’t care. The fear of the Lord is what makes you depart from evil. If you don’t fear the Lord, there’s no limit to the evil you can do.
Psalm 36:1 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart,
that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes,
until his iniquity be found to be hateful.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:
he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.
4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed;
he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
Romans 3: 10 as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 and the way of peace have they not known: 18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.
