Real Unity – One Mind on Jesus, One Mouth on Christ | Countdown to The Call Detroit 11-11-11: Day 6 –

Real Unity – One Mind on Jesus, One Mouth on Christ

As we prepare for the Call, one thing we need to pray about is Unity in the Church. Unity is actually Jesus the King’s #1 evangelism strategy. He prayed that we would be one, so that the world could believe in Him.

21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:21

But what is real unity. Real Biblical Unity is not ecumenicalism, its not putting aside our beliefs, its not everybody joining the same organization, or sitting in the same building. True Unity is conforming our beliefs to the image of Christ and the Word of God. Real unity is found in Romans 15

6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:6

One Mind – Thinking the same things about Jesus Christ.

One Mouth – Saying the same things about Jesus Christ.

When we look at Jesus Christ long and hard enough in His Word and by His Spirit, we all will start seeing the sames glorious and beautiful things about Him. Then we will be changed into His image. We will stop fightiing with our different roles, and see each other connected to Christ. We will chop off every false head, principality, stronghold or idol that leads us away from Him. We won’t be in disagreement about Jesus, we will be in agreement with Jesus and about Jesus.

Every ministry will think the same things about Jesus. Every ministry will say the same things about Jesus Christ. That’s true Unity.

Let your Kingdom Come Father!

Pastor Eric’s Perspective on the Solemn Assembly | Countdown to The Call Detroit 11-11-11: Day 20 –

Pastor Eric Moore sent me this message… it was so beautiful I asked him if I could post it on my blog. He said yes, so here it is!

—-

You are probably aware that believers from around the country are going to gather at Ford Field on 11-11-11 for the CALL Detroit. For about three years I carried a burden that metro Detroit needed to gather for a solemn assembly. So when Lou Engle decided to do a Call in Detroit I immediately rejoiced! Lou’s organization, The Call, is based on Joel 2:15, “Blow the trumpet in zion, declare a holy fast, CALL a sacred assembly…”. (www.thecall.com) God is providing a powerful opportunity for the Body of Christ in metro Detroit to humble ourselves together in repentance and seeking God for mercy.

It is so important that we understand why we are assembling so we can properly prepare to attend.

The Forgotten Spiritual Discipline of the Solemn Assembly

Over the last decade I developed a deep appreciation for the Solemn Assembly. Prior to 2001 I didn’t really even know what a solemn assembly was and the vital role that it played in Biblical theology and in Church history. A solemn assembly is a corporate church discipline that brings a willing, humble church to a moment of repentance and belief in the efficacy of the cross and the mercy of God. The Church uses the discipline of a solemn assembly when she recognizes her sinfulness and the need to repent. Usually the driving force for a solemn assembly is dire circumstances in the community or nation.

The Church needs to reclaimed the solemn as a spiritual discipline. If you are over 30 years old you have watched the Church reclaim the spiritual discipline of fasting. As a child I never heard of anyone doing a fast. I was floored in the late 90’s when a pastor friend of mine in Canton, MI committed to doing a 40 day fast. I thought he was nuts! Our mindset has shifted about fasting. Now I know many people who fast, even doing extended fasts, me included! The same shift is beginning to happen with the forgotten discipline of solemn assemblies.

For a detailed presentation on the theology and history of solemn assemblies go to http://downloads.frc.org/EF/EF09E09.pdf. Dr. Owen Roberts has a outstanding explanation entitled SOLEMN ASSEMBLY: Forgotten Means of God’s Grace;. Hope for the Survival of America. Here is a germaine excerpt…

Not only were Solemn Assemblies a very common aspect in the revivals of the Bible, but they were a very important part of the life of believers in America during all its early years. For verification of this one has only to consult the Sprague Collection of Early American Pamphlets at the Weidener Library at Harvard University. There will be found a large number of sermons that were preached at the Fast Days and Solemn Assemblies which were frequently called and earnestly attended by American believers prior to the general decline of true Christianity which characterizes twentieth-century America.

Our Fathers believed God was offended by sin. They themselves were deeply troubled both by the existence of personal sin in their own lives and by the presence of unconfessed corporate sins in the churches and in the nation. They regarded natural calamities as manifestations of the displeasure of God Almighty against sin and allowed such events as earthquakes, fires, volcanoes, epidemics, floods, and droughts to prompt them to special seeking of God’s face in fasting, prayer, and corporate repentance. They also sought the Lord in Solemn Assemblies in connection with wars, murders, rapes, etc., believing such outbursts of wickedness to be directly related to the general decline of moral and spiritual life in the churches.

The Call Detroit – Investing in Our Community’s Solemn Assembly

With fascination I’m watching leaders of churches come on board with support for the Call. It’s truly supernatural the way God is pulling it together. Historic black denominations like COGIC, Full Gospel Baptist, AME, independent Charismatic and Baptist are seeing God’s hand orchestrating this movement. The bridging between the black and white cultures is flourishing, not just because a new set of relationships is developing but also because the content of the conversations is so much more spiritually substantive!

In a recent meeting with key leaders in Detroit, Lou observed, “In all of the 18 CALLS I’ve done in America, I never been welcomed to a city like I have in Detroit. And I’ve never been welcomed by the black community until now.” Yea, God!

Getting on board with what God is doing requires adjustments on our part. (Henry Blackaby, Experiencing God, notes that it will probably bring a crisis of faith!) To really engage expectantly in this solemn assembly will require new levels of…

First, Contending. This solemn assembly is about contending in the spiritual battle in Detroit and our nation. The Call is not a concert to come and enjoy good music. We are gathering to fast and pray together. God gave us a way to deal with the spiritual forces of darkness. They were conquered at the Cross. When unconfessed sin is present in someone’s life or in a territory, demonic forces have a legal right to be present and active. Through confession the power of the cross is applied and the legal claim of darkness is negated. Even the Old Testament gives example of the power of confession when Nehemiah and Ezra confessed their sins and the sins of their fathers. Real change came about through genuine repentance. Come, having prepared yourself with personal repentance!

Second, Humility. Investing in this solemn assembly requires the true humility to identify with the sins of our community and of our fathers. Humility is the doorway to grace, which we desperately need. That was the humility expressed by Nehemiah and Ezra. Their prayers did not blame someone else for what was wrong. They embraced it as their own. The corruption in our city governments around metro detroit is not a reason to throw stones but to kneel down ask God to forgive us. So it should be with each of the sins devastating our community! Come, and cloak yourself with true humility!

Third, Unity. Joel’s call for a solemn assembly called for everyone-each tribe, young and old, male and female, old people and babies. Stop what you’re doing and come together! That’s the idea! Kneel together to find mercy. Just maybe the fullness of the Kingdom of Heaven is found in the variety of expressions and passions in Christ’s Body. Come, even if you have questions about the other guy!! LOL!

 One last thought…

As spiritual leaders have gathered to discuss and plan for the CALL they consistently say, “We don’t need another prayer meeting, we need a prayer movement!”  Lou’s words pierced many hearts when he said, “Islam has a prayer culture, we have prayer meetings!” (Even those are not real well attended!)

The Call is an event, an important event. God will hear our prayers and respond with mercy. But the full catalytic power of the Call is to shift us into a deeper place of love among the family, deeper place of intimacy and intercession before God and a deeper faith to live sacrificially for our community!

That’s what His kingdom looks like!!!

Love,

The Call

Join us on 8 Mile | Countdown to the Call Detroit 11-11-11: Day 37 –

Join Us on 8 Mile   | Join Us All Night Long

We are praying down the dividing walls of this region every day at 2pm, on 8 Mile & Lahser… Every day leading up to The Call. 8 Mile represents division, in the past it was a dividing line of racism and classism.

One of the keys to restoration and revival is repentance. On of the main areas of repentance is for racism in the Church. We are praying for the desegregation of Sunday morning. We are praying for racial desegregation, denominational desegregation, the ending of schisms and factions in the Church… and that walls of hostility would be torn down. The Unity of the Church is Jesus Christ’s most effective Evangelism strategy (John 17). Join us on 8 Mile daily until 11-11-11.

There is a time for praying in secret, and there is a time to shout from the mountain tops the things that God has whispered in your ear in secret (Luke 12). Saints its time to arise and cry with a loud voice. We can’t be like the frog that boiled because his atmosphere was heating up slowly. We need to discern the signs of the times and respond with spiritual violence to take the kingdom! God may be about to do something unprecedented.

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12

All Night Prayer @ DaHOP. Jesus prayed All Night Long unto God. If you want to press in with us join us on Friday Nights, 6pm- 6am. Let us acheive the great repentance and turning of our hearts to God that is necessary. Join us. Daniel turned a nation repenting and praying all by himself! So if 3 of you come and join us on Fridays leading up to The Call and join us at The Call in TRUE REPENTANCE…. What could happen in our nation?

The Call

We Already Have the Authority | Countdown to The Call Detroit 11-11-11: Day 39 –

WE ALREADY HAVE ALL THE AUTHORITY

The Authority of the Believer.

We really have it! We are already on top. In Matthew 16 Jesus gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. He said

18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

When I teach on binding and loosing I don’t mean yelling at demons. I mean what we allow and disallow with our mouths, but especially with our ACTIONS.

From what Jesus Christ has said: we are not trying to get authority, we already have authority.

In Matthew 28:19, Jesus said that All power is given unto me… therefore YOU go… Why would He tell US to do something with the power that HE has. Because we are in Him, of course. The Body of Christ collectively. This makes total sense, especially combined with Matthew 16:19 and Luke 10:19.

Luke 10:19 – power to tread on power of enemy (I GIVE YOU)

Matthew 16:19 – keys to the Kingdom of heaven (I GIVE YOU)

I am NOT saying that as individuals we have all power over heaven and earth. I am saying that Jesus Christ has given us authority in Him.

The question becomes: What are we doing with our authority? Are we obeying Christ, or are we disobeying Christ? What has the church been allowing (loosing) on earth, that has now been loosed in heaven (the atmosphere over the earth)? What has the church refused to tolerate (binding) that subsequently been bound in heaven (the atmosphere over the earth)?

What we say goes… even if we don’t quite understand it. What we tolerate gets spiritual power. What we don’t tolerate loses spiritual power. If we as the Church want to change our cities and regions, it all starts with us. So many times we look up to government, media, entertainment, etc… When we should be looking down. Not looking down out of pride or becaue we are better than anyone else. But simply because Jesus put us on top. We need to lift these areas up.

So many times, we point the finger of blame at unbelievers, when its all our fault. Our frustration should not be with ubelievers, but our frustration should be with ourselves for giving unbelievers power to do what they do. My wife says all the time “If Christians didn’t support wickedness, wickedness would fail.” If everyone who claimed to be a Christian stopped supporting wicked entertainment, then wicked entertainment would not be successful. I don’t have the time to get into that on this blog, but that’s just the natural side. I was guilty of this myself as a teenager.

On the spiritual side, its undebatable! Why does abortion thrive? Because we allowed family planning to become acceptable. We gave the devil an inch in the church and he took a mile in the culture eeeeeasy. Why do half of marriages end in divorce? Because we do it in the church. Why is adultery and fornication rampant in our culture? Because of the spiritual adultery and spiritual fornication in the church. Then we point the finger at the government and at unbelievers when we haven’t cleaned up the Church.

Don’t get me wrong, I”m not saying that we can’t correct people that are unbelievers… But our main focus should be purifying the Church. I pray for our President and think he’s a cool person. But my main frustration with Obama is NOT with Obama, its with people in the Church that agree with him rather than searching for biblical principles of government. My frustration with Republican candidates is not against them personally… Its with Christians who think that Republican = Christian and don’t even search or second-guess the standard Republican ideas, which are not all necessarily correct according to scripture. I was guilty of this myself until i started finding out a more balanced and biblical view from a liberty perspective.

My main frustration with with wicked artists, wicked movies, etc… is not them (they don’t know any better). My frustration is with the Christians who support them and follow them and prop them up helping them poison our culture and make Harvesting Souls more difficult. We need PURITY in the Church because we have way more power than we think. We actually have ALL authority in heaven and earth, but we are just using it wrong. We are actually On Top Already. If we REPENT, its game over… the devil has no more of a chance. We need to protest ourselves.

Case in point: I know a lot of people that moved to Atlanta from Detroit. One of the things that I always heard about when I talk to them is the gay population that is really flourished and aggressive. I used to wonder, since when is Atlanta know for gay black men? There are other cities with lots of black people that are not necessarily “gay capitals.” Then when I heard about the famous Atlanta preacher sexually abusing boys… I got the connection – OHHH, the Church loosed that in Atlanta. You know what else… 30 days before, there was a solemn assembly of fasting, repentance and preaching that even prepared the way for that sin to be revealed. The Church bound it, and it was bound. Will the Church in Atlanta continue to purify?

What if the solution to our city gang problems was Unity in the Church instead of the wars of words?

What if the solution to abortion was us accepting all the Children the Lord gave us instead of buying the lie that children are a loss instead of a profit? I was guilty of this myself in the first few months of my marriage.

What if the solution to protecting marriage was the Church protecting our marriages, and stopping the spiritual adultery that looses the physical adultery?

What if the solution to cultural pollution was purifying the worship in our own Churches, building a house of prayer and keeping God’s Levites employed in that work day and night?

What if the solution to racism was desegregating the Body of Christ?

Judgement begins in the house of God (1 Peter 5)… We ALREADY have the authority, we have just been using it all wrong. We need to REPENT and turn our hearts to God. What we bind is bound, and what we loose is loosed. We need to Purify the Bride of Christ so that she can bind the wrong things and loose the right things in the Body of Christ, on earth. THEN it will be bound and loosed in the atmospheres over our cities.

This is just a short spur of the moment blog, so be gentle when poking holes in my arguments :-).  I will be sharing more of the research and scriptures on this topic in the near future. We will be seeking to achieve the great repentance that is necessary to turn our city and nation around at DaHOP on Friday nights. Join us. Daniel turned a nation repenting and praying by himself! So if 3 of you come and join us on Fridays leading up to The Call and join us at The Call in TRUE REPENTANCE…. What could happen in our nation?

The Call

GUM: Growth. Unity. Music.

G- Growth in the Kingdom

Growth in the Kingdom is:

1. Seeking God’s Kingdom within You!

2. Adding souls to the Christian Lifestyle!

YOUR Growth in the Kingdom

The Kingdom of God is WITHIN YOU!

….The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you! -Jesus, Luke 17

The Kingdom of God is IN YOU through your Knowledge of Jesus and of his Word, and you are always growing in that by studying, saying, obeying, and doing his Teachings, (the Bible).

But what are some other shortcuts & accelerators? How else can you grow in the kingdom?

Seek the Kingdom! Jesus instructions on seeking the Kingdom are in Matthew 6:

3: But when thou doest alms..
7: But when ye pray..

16: Moreover when ye fast..

19: Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth..

31: Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat.. Drink.. be clothed?

33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness..

Matt 6

Read the rest for more details; but this is the basic outline on the “Seeking the Kingdom“ chapter..

1. Giving– giving to the poor and to the ministry and to brothers/sisters shows you how to seek heaven`s treasure more than earth`s, And THEN YOU`LL GET HEAVEN`S TREASURES.

2. Praying– Giving time in prayer will DEFINITELY make God`s Power & Favor overflow in your life. You will also Hear Him more! This is Exciting!-)

3. Fasting- Giving your energy to God by giving up food for a day or few will make your soul humble and give you more Kingdom Power and Supernatural Energy. You will also Hear Him a LOT more! This is Very Exciting!-)

4. Don`t Lay Up Treasure on Earth– just use what you need to support yourself and your family.

5. Don`t Worry about food and clothing!- God will provide!

OUR Growth in the Kingdom

We see a model for OUR Growth in the Kingdom of God in Acts 2:42. There was a great number of people getting saved AND PARTICIPATING in the LifeStyle. God didn’t say 3000 people just answered an altar call, He said 3000 souls were ADDED to them. This means they had 3000 additional People participating in their Doctrine Studies, Fellowships w/food, and Prayer Meetings.

41: Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42: And they continued steadfastly in the apostles` doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

46: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47: Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Acts 2

This means they joined the Kingdom`s continual lifestyle of Loving God and loving Each Other. Before that day, there were only a few (like 120, Acts 2:1) people who were really following Jesus, meeting and praying together. After the Holy Ghost came and the Word was preached, 3000 people were added to that group of people that were studying the Teachings of Jesus, having fellowships with Food, and having Prayer Meetings. In Acts 2:42 I see 3 elements to that lifestyle:

  • apostles` doctrine – teachings from Jesus and about Jesus and His Kingdom
  • fellowship & breaking of bread – togetherness, and eating
  • prayers – meeting together and praying

42: And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Acts 5

In the Temple AND House to House

In Acts 5:42 we also see a similar principle. Its important not only to go to a temple or church building, but also to open up your house to Jesus and to people!

9: Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 1 Peter 4

1: Let brotherly love continue.
2: Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13

2: A bishop then must be.. given to hospitality..1 Timothy 3

Do Bible Studies, fellowships with food, and prayer meetings at your house! You will be helping the Kingdom of God to grow!

The Lord of hosts also commands YOU to do this! Especially now in the last days!

7: But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
8: And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9: Use hospitality one to another without grudging.

1 Peter 4

definition of watch – Strongs # 3535 – nepho

1. to be sober, to be calm and collected in spirit

2. to be temperate, dispassionate, circumspect

definition of charity – Strongs # 26 – agape’

1. brotherly love, affection, good will, love, benevolence

2. love feasts

definition of hospitality – Strong’s # 5382 – philoxenos

1. hospitable, generous to guests

This scripture shows the atmospheres that Christians are to be setting in the last days. It’s a sober atmosphere of prayer, brotherly love, love feasts, and generous hospitality. If you read the next two verses (1 Peter 4:10,11), you’ll see that it’s an atmosphere where everyone should use their gifts with God’s confidence and power!

UNITY

Unity is important for the Body of Christ. It was one of Jesus’ last prayer requests’ that His people would be set apart by the truth and that they would be ONE!

19: And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20: Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21: That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

John 17

Notice in that verse 21 that Jesus said if we are One, the world might believe that the Father has sent Jesus! To me, that’s a Great Promise, and it shows that Unity is a HUGE Evangelism tool!

Unity is in the Mind

Unity does not necessarily mean that everybody has to be in the same place, or go to the same church.. There’s not a building big enough to hold everybody that loves Jesus! BUT true Unity is in the mind, when everyone knows and believes and speaks the same truth about the Kingdom of God.

5: Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
6: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15

Out of all the attributes of God, why did He describe the God of Patience and Consolation to be the one that grants us to be likeminded towards one another? I’m so glad you asked!-)

WHAT DO WE DO?- to increase Unity in the Body of Christ?

Exhortation & Consolation

Exhortation- consolation, `calling near` or to encourage, urge, give advice

When you talk to someone in a consoling or encouraging way, call someone to come to a fellowship, or send them a letter, an email or text message, you are `calling them near.` It is much easier to have Oneness of Mind when there is open communication, edifying communication, and `calling near.` God told us to consider each other, and to provoke each other to walk in love and good works as we exhort or `call near` one another.

24: And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10

Consider Others- Provoke Love and Good Works- Exhorting (Calling Near) Others– Don’t Forsake Others!

Patience, Humility, Forgiveness, & Hard Work

Whenever you have relationships, you’re going to get hurt. Friendship is Bloody. Jesus gave his Blood and His Life so we could be his friends. So it`s important to work in forgiveness and forbearance if you want to have Unity…

..walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2: With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3: Endeavouring to keep the Unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4

Look at all the words that surround the scripture on Unity:

Vocation: Calling, Invitation

Lowliness: Humbleness of Mind, Lowliness

Meekness: Gentleness, Mildness, Meekness

Longsuffering: Patience, Endurance, Steadfastness, Slowness to Avenge

Forbearance: to Endure, Hold Up, Suffer, Bear With

Endeavoring: Work Hard, Labor, Diligence, Haste, Exertion

Wow! Wherever you find Unity of the Mind & Spirit, you’ll find humility, forgiveness and people working hard!

You really need a God of Patience and Consolation for all that! Let’s Call Him Jehovah El Patience & Consolation!-)

M.usic to Fill your Heart with the Word&Spirit of God

Music Helps you to live out God’s Commandments.

Make up songs and sing them to the Lord, and it will be a lot easier to live right.

Good Scripture-Based Songs also can renew your mind and teach you how to think.

Good Music fills your soul with the Spirit of God, as we can see in Ephesians 5:

18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19: Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Ephesians 5

That means you can use music to fill your heart with the Spirit!

Good Music fills your soul with the Word of God, as we can see in Colossians 3:

16: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Colossians 3

That means you can use music to fill your heart with the Word!

When you have The WORD of God AND the SPIRIT of God, you have a POWERFUL COMBINATION!-)

That should give you an idea of the Power that can flow through music!

Make sure you use your music well!

If the Word of God, and the Spirit of God fill your soul through your use of music, are there other ”words” and other ”spirits” that can fill your soul also? YES! Watch out for music inspired by false understandings and wrong attitudes.

The music you listen to is very important. Never submit your soul to music that is not Biblical or spiritually right.

I used to use some of these excuses:

”But I don’t believe it; I just listen to it”

”I don’t listen to the lyrics; I just like the beats because they sound good”

The Bible Says: Faith comes by hearing (Rom 10:17)..

So if you continually and willfully HEAR music with lyrics that are unbiblical, you will BUILD UP YOUR FAITH IN A LIE. Then you will wonder why you have become spiritually stupid, desensitized, and unmotivated to live fully in the Kingdom. I’ve seen this happen to brothers & sisters in Christ over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.. and over again.

Keep Your Soul Clean!
